Hot-pote

My name is Gaëtan Billault. After several years working in graphic design in Paris, Dublin and London, it was in 2016 that my passion for ceramics was born, in London. My first classes were given by the ceramist Lesley Mc Shea. It was within her 4 walls that I experimented illustrations with ceramics. It's how 'hot-pote' started. I then decided to take the plunge and professionalize myself by learning how to throw properly on the wheel. To further my knowledge I decided to move back to France. After 8 months of throwing training(ATC Paris) I finally see myself returning to my creations. Since that day, everything has accelerated. In the summer of 2018, I set up a workshop in Montreuil, ‘Les potiers du Quartier’. To this day I give courses in throwing and hand building to beginners and continue my ceramic experiments and productions. Hot-pote was born in London in 2016 and then grew up in Paris. It is quite natural that I nourish my ceramic work with my graphic influences. My geometric shapes are inspired by the Memphis movement, the Bauhaus..., but also I find myself a lot in London pop culture. With this project, I wanted to materialize my drawings. These characters are part of me and come to life when I make them in stoneware or porcelain on my wheel! These little ‘friends’ then come to invade our interiors. These ceramics come to life through the use we make of them, they are a pot for your cactus, a cup for your coffee, you can carry them around as badges and they can even water your plants...
